From the Chairman's Desk
By Bob Witulski

Tournament 2010

June 12 2010 to June 20, 2010
Awards Picnic, June 26, 2010

Even after the tournament, Norm and I are deeply disappointed at having to close the Chadwick Bay weigh station. It is a sad reflection on Southtowns that a club of this size can't get enough volunteers to run a successful tournament. We really poured ourselves into the tournament, but still fell short. We just can't understand that after putting in hundreds of hours into the tournament people were so selfish that they could not surrender three hours of fishing to run a weigh station. The strong message is that the membership is willing to enjoy everything, but give little in return. Norm and I hope that you will be more supportive of the next chairmen. WE GIVE UP!!!! For those folks that stepped up to help, We wish to convey our sincere thanks from the heart.

The 2010 tournament went very well. For the most part the weather and fishing were good.. One day only eight fish were weighed due to the weather. The winning fish was caught by Jim Dolly and weighed 12.67 lbs. It took a sizeable fish to make the money list, as the 200th fish weighed 9.03 lbs. The August issue of FISHLINE will carry full results of the tournament

REMINDER ! Please consider using our sponsors when making your purchases or seeking services. Be sure to mention your affiliation with the Southtowns Walleye Association. . If you are lucky and win one of our early bird prizes, please mention your winning to the sponsor !

Norm and I met a lot of people and made a bunch of new friends as co-chairmen. We had a good time in executing our responsibilities, and appeal to you to support our successors.

Good Luck in the future, Bob W.

    And now something from the Co-Chairman . . .

It was a pleasure to be your co-chairman for the 2010 tournament. Bob and I complemented each other very well to make this one of the best tournaments in recent times. We spent countless hours working with local and national sponsors. In most cases it took multiple tries before we succeeded. By being persistent, we were able to gather in excess of 200 prizes from local merchants. The depressed economy added to the challenge.

The youth division fared quite well with prizes from a most supportive Emerling Chevrolet/Ford and Dick's Sporting Goods. Overboard Charters stepped up with a salmon fishing trip for the top three finishers. A special thanks goes out to Mr. Glenn Wiggle for his contribution of the charter.

We were disappointed at having to close the Chadwick Bay weigh station, but in the same breath we thank all the volunteers that staffed the other four weigh stations. Weigh station duty can be informative. You get a first hand look at what lures are working and at what depths. The folks manning the stations seem to have a good time. Dan Henderson did a great job in managing the weigh stations.

Bob and I wish to thanks all our sponsors for being the backbone of the tournament. Their help was critical. A special thanks goes to the folks who hosted the weigh stations. This includes Barcelona Harbor, Hidden Harbor Marina, Sturgeon Point, and the NFTA Boat Harbor.

As Bob and I join the ranks of fishermen, we wish to extend a fond farewell as co-chairmen of the tournament. We also wish the best of luck to our successors.

I still need volunteers for the County Fair. We are trying to assemble an album of fish caught by club members for display at the fair. Please contribute to this effort. You pictures will be returned.

Help will also be needed at the Kid's Fishing Derby on July 17. We need to help Dennis who has a broken ankle

A fond farewell to all, and see you on the water, Norm
