This
will be a very different year for our special people program. Our dates have been changed from the
blustery winter days in January to the mild spring temperatures of May ! The
Armor Volunteer Fire Company has agreed to host this yearÕs event, in their
newly constructed building behind the main hall. Our event will be held in a NEW building but hopefully weÕll
have the same wonderful times as always.
Our
dates and times for this year are: Saturday, May 10th and Monday, May 12th thru
Friday, May 16th 2008. The
Saturday hours are 10:00 am until 6 :00 pm. The weekday hours will be 9:00am
till 2:00pm. We will be hosting
many school age Children so our hours must accommodate their bus schedules!
Last
year we hosted over 650 special fishermen and women and everyone had a great
time, including our workers ! We
hear about our event from people all year long, sometimes you even catch a
glimpse of someone wearing their prized ÒS.W.A. Special PeopleÓ T-shirt or hat
from a past event. You hear people
talk about their experiences from previous years and canÕt wait until the next
event. Many former Òfisher-peopleÓ
display their photos and excitedly describe how they caught their fish to
friends, family and anyone within ear shot !
When
we put the notices out about each yearÕs event our phone starts ringing off the
hook with people calling to make sure they can reserve a spot on our
schedule. There is a lot of
enthusiasm for this event. Many
times during these calls we will hear a story about how someone they plan to
bring has been bugging them to call so they donÕt miss out. We have gotten to know some wonderful
people while being involved in this organization, and according to some people,
this is the best program this club runs. I really canÕt describe how you feel
if you volunteer, it is something you have to experience yourself. I will tell you one thing, our
volunteers keep coming back, year after year !
We
also need people to bake goodies for our special guests. Each year the Firemen donate soft
drinks and our members make lots of goodies so we can provide refreshments for
these very special people. All we
ask is that you do not add nuts to the baked goods as many of our guests have
medical reason to avoid these. Also, sugar-free treats are appreciated.
If
you would like to participate in this yearÕs event let us know. You can call us
at the office 716-649-8202 or e-mail us at
Special People Fishing Chairman
or talk with one of us at a
meeting. See you there . . .
